Message from the Founder

MMF Spotlight

In these times of uncertainty with health and safety concerns across the world, it is comforting to know that there are good Samaritans willing to come forward and make a positive impact in people’s lives. We wish to showcase the efforts of two individuals who volunteered out of their own volition to improve and prepare career seeking students for a professional life. Bless their hearts for their initiative, time, and patience.

One of our MMF students, who received a gold medal for her outstanding academic achievements, has lost job opportunities due to the lack of effective English speaking and communication skills. Ms. Tejaswi has taken up to mentor our MMF student and help not just with her communication skills but also with preparing her for Staff Selection Commission and Civil Service tests.

Mr. Vamshi on the other hand has taken up the onus of mentoring four MMF students under his wing. The students each come from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Medicine fields. Mr. Vamshi signed up to help them face the job market by preparing them for job interviews and the corporate culture. We wholeheartedly thank Ms. Tejaswi and Mr. Vamshi for selflessly contributing to the benefit of humanity.

MMF India Programs -

In our previous newsletter, we showcased how MMF volunteers have been helping non-English speakers become comfortable communicating in English. Along with efforts from volunteers such as Ms. Tejaswi and Mr. Vamshi, the MMF executive committee realized that this is a much larger issue and non-native speakers improving their communication skills is much too important as it is not academically given enough focus for students to succeed, in India.

The thought process was that these skills benefit students as they grow up and advance into becoming career professionals. Fear of getting judged as they speak or ask questions should not pull students back from succeeding in life. The more they practice speaking while being watched, the better they balance aspirations and perspirations. We began forming focus groups of few students, and what began as a pilot experiment picked up steam very quickly. We now have about 70 students in total from India and the US, ranging from elementary school through college, gathering remotely every weekend for an hour to speak their mind about various topics of interest. We hope to formalize these efforts in the next few months and start a Toastmasters international chapter and help students build confidence and ability to express themselves to lead a successful career.

We are very thankful to the participants and volunteers to drive forward this initiative.

MMF USA Activities

MMF activities have significantly been affected by the COVID-19 lockdown and there seems no end in sight for normalcy restoration. During this time, we found an alternate means of contribution and participation. MMF teamed up with the Food Bank of Iowa to gather donations so they can help people in need. With an ambitious goal of $5,000 in donations, we were able to cross upward of 70% of the target. Our donations helped the Food Bank of Iowa cater about 14,400 meals for the needy thus far. If you are able to, please contribute to the Food Bank of Iowa by clicking here: https://give.foodbankiowa.org/teams/13760-manaloni-manishi-foundation-mmf-you-are-what-you-think

We are wading through uncertain and challenging times. Our health and safety are as important as the well-being of others around us. Through following safe practices and physical distancing guidelines, we can survive COVID-19 together.
